Be a champion in only 2 minutes!
Yup, that’s right! You can change the way you feel in such a short amount of time. According to Amy Cuddy‘s research our posture is not only an expression of our mood and feeling, but it can also work the other way round. What I mean is that it can actually affect the way we feel and think about ourselves.
It is a fact that body language is all about communication and even small gestures can make a difference. Social scientists have spent significant time on researching the non-verbal exchanging messages between people. “How we judge others, how they judge us and what the outcomes are”. However, the most important thing that we often forget or neglect to consider is how our own non-verbal signals affect us, our thoughts, our feelings and our physiology.
When we feel powerful and full of pride we expand our body and extend our chest forward. Also, in cases of victory we open our hands wide in the air, forming a “V”. On the other hand, when we feel unconfident and powerless we tend to crawl up, shrink, grunge and avoid getting close to other people.
Amy Cuddy gave the most inspirational TED talk on the subject and explained in details how our body can change our mind and not only the other way round. So, the results of her research are the following:
If you want to feel more powerful all you need to do is take a power pose for 2 minutes. And by power pose I mean something like this:
It can drastically and immediately boost your self-esteem and put your mind in a state of victory. It is a simple and it really works!
From me have a powerful Sunday and let me know if you tried it and if power poses worked for you. They certainly worked for me!
